Virtual Professional Development

Thursday, April 6, 2023 (8:00 AM - 9:30 AM) (EDT)

Virtual Professional Development sessions are facilitated by the Shafer Leadership Academy (SLA). These SLA programs are available to you as members of the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce through generous contributions to the Zionsville RISE Foundation.

Registration for virtual programs is a limited-time member-only benefit (through August 2023). Registration is required to access a recording or to virtually attend a program. A list of upcoming virtual programs is available here

April Topic: The Language of Disability

To register for this program, click here. Enter your information and indicate “Yes, your organization is a Shafer Leadership Academy member.” Then choose “Zionsville Chamber - RISE Foundation” from the list to attend at no cost.

Program Description:

Why is it sometimes difficult to talk about disabilities? How do you know which words to use? What words would you use to describe yourself and your identities? In this session, the presenter will share some quick and (relatively) easy tips for everyday language to use when talking about disabilities and accommodations. Please bring questions to ask during the talk and be prepared to share your own experiences and examples.

Program Learning Objectives:

  1. Think about ways that language affects our everyday life
  2. Examine examples of language related to disability
  3. Reframe preconceived notions about ability

This virtual professional development is available to current Zionsville Chamber of Commerce members (and employees of member businesses) at no cost.
