New Public Restrooms Coming to Downtown Zionsville this Spring

ZIONSVILLE, IN (March 6, 2025) – The Town of Zionsville is pleased to announce the installation of public restrooms in downtown Zionsville, addressing a long-standing need identified by both residents and local businesses. Located just south of The Friendly Tavern in the town-owned parking lot, these restrooms will be available in April 2025 and provide a key amenity for shoppers, diners, and eventgoers.

A 2023 study conducted by the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce found that 96% of respondents believed public restrooms would enhance the visitor experience, and 75% of businesses had received restroom requests from customers. The study also highlighted the increased demand for facilities during popular downtown events such as the Zionsville Farmers Market, Brick Street Market, Fall Festival, and Street Dance.

“In the 25 years we’ve been downtown, public restrooms have been one of the most needed improvements,” said Kent Esra, owner of Cobblestone Grill and member of the Zionsville Redevelopment Commission. “This is something the community and downtown businesses have needed from the very beginning, and it will make a big difference for both visitors and local establishments.”

A Community-Driven Improvement

The new Village restrooms will offer:

• ADA accessibility, including a baby changing table

 • Daily hours from 7 AM – 10 PM, with adjusted hours for special events

 • Exterior lighting and a security camera for safety

• Regular maintenance by the Town’s Departments of Public Works (DPW) and Parks & Recreation.

The Zionsville Farmers Market has expressed excitement about the restrooms, as they will provide a significant improvement for both vendors and attendees, enhancing the overall market experience. Additionally, downtown businesses will benefit from having an alternative restroom option for visitors, helping to relieve the pressure on individual storefronts.

“Our already great town has just gotten a little better by making sure everyone has access to public restrooms in the Village,” said Mayor John Stehr. “I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce, Farmers Market, Town Council, Redevelopment Commission, and town staff for their help and cooperation through this process.”

Site Preparation & What to Expect

The Town’s DPW department will begin preparing the site the week of March 10. This process will include minor landscaping adjustments and the removal of two parking spaces to accommodate the facility. While the Town recognizes the importance of parking downtown, this location was carefully selected to maximize accessibility and long-term benefits for visitors, businesses, and special events.

Investing in a Better Downtown Experience

The installation of these restrooms is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to enhance the downtown Zionsville experience. While this provides an immediate solution to a long-standing need, the Town is also planning for the future development of a civic plaza in the Village, which would include permanent public restrooms.

Once that project is completed, the Village restroom facility will be repurposed for use at parks, special events, or other community needs, ensuring it remains a valuable asset for the Town. In the meantime, this new amenity will provide clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities for residents, shoppers, visitors, and eventgoers, especially during bustling weekends and major events
