North Salem, Indiana – January 15, 2025 – Matthew W. Howrey, President and CEO of The North Salem State Bank (NSSB) and its holding company, North Salem State Bancorporation, has been named the 2025 Chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA) Board of Directors. The announcement was made during the IBA Annual Convention, held on September 9th in French Lick, Indiana.
Howrey brings nearly two decades of banking leadership experience to this prestigious role. Since joining North Salem State Bank in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer, Howrey has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of the bank, serving as President and CEO since 2010. His leadership, along with his ability to inspire teamwork and growth, has shaped a culture that prioritizes people and the community above all else.
An active contributor to the IBA, Howrey has served in various capacities, including Southwest Regional Director, trustee of the IBA Insurance Trust, and as a member or past member of the Financial Management, Government Relations and Audit Committees. His long-standing involvement with the IBA reflects his dedication to the growth and success of Indiana’s banking industry.
In addition to his professional achievements, Howrey has made significant contributions to his community. He has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Hendricks County Community Foundation and Putnam County’s 100 Men Who Care. A past president of the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County and the Greencastle - Putnam County Economic Development Center, Howrey is passionate about the growth and opportunities in the communities he serves.
Beyond his civic and professional commitments, Howrey is actively involved in coaching, volunteering and fundraising for local youth sports, and a dedicated member of Soul Harvest Church.
Howrey earned both his bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Indiana University and was recognized as a “Rising Star in Banking” in 2013 by Northwestern Financial (now BankBeat) magazine.
